About the Potter Stewart U.S. Courthouse

Step inside one of Cincinnati’s most historic and architecturally significant buildings. The Potter Stewart U.S. Courthouse has served as the home of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit since its completion in 1939 and continues a judicial legacy in Cincinnati that dates back to 1891. Today, it is home to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. Throughout its history, the Sixth Circuit has heard landmark cases that have shaped American law while serving Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, and Tennessee. The courthouse is named in honor of Cincinnati native Justice Potter Stewart, who served on both the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
