Recent changes to student loan borrowing are reshaping how students and families may need to think about paying for college. In this virtual PD, teachers will participate in a scenario-based lesson that asks students to make decisions when the cost of their preferred college exceeds the amount they are able to borrow.
Participants will explore the trade-offs students may face, including scholarships, employment, living at home, choosing a lower-cost institution, beginning at a community college, or relying on family contributions. The lesson connects current student loan policy to key personal finance and economics concepts such as scarcity, opportunity cost, budgeting, and decision-making.
